Have you saved the Earth today?

Today April 22nd is Earth Day, a day that reminds us about the bad condition of the Earth after massive developments in past decades. However, how many of us in Malaysia aware of this day? Or I should put as, how many of us aware that our Earth is in danger?

From day to day, we can see a lot of people not aware that what they are doing is actually bringing disaster to ourselves. It is us, the human being that who bring the danger to Earth, not Aliens, not Martians, not even the one who told by our ancestors.

In movies, novels or TV series, when the Earth is in danger, we have super heroes appear to save us. But who can be the heroes for the damages that done by us? We are! We are the saviours of the Earth, and it’s simple, not need to be a super hero, no need save a cheer leader.

These are simple things that we can do to make sure the damages are controlled, or at least our children won’t blame us on not taking care the Earth and give them a Earth like macrowave and lack of clean water.

  • Recycle. We listen this word since small, but how many people doing it well? Execpt recycling aluminium tins, we also can recycle papers, glasses, plastics, cloths, stationeries… As long as not throwing them directly into waste bins, and try to collect them and send to recycle centers, or someone who can reuse them. One more thing very important is recycling plastic bags. Try to avoid taking plastic bags from cashiers, if the stuffs you buying can be taken by hands, or you are going to eat soon (for example the sandwiches you buy while walking to office every morning). Try to buy from those shops or markets giving out biodegradable plastic bags. Although now biodegradable plastic bags is not 100% environmental safe, but at least the damage is not as serious as traditional petrochemicals plastic bags.
  • Save power. Turn off the lights when nobody in the rooms or wash rooms. Use those power saving electronic appliances. Turn off the PC monitors during lunch time. Turn off the air-cond when not using, or not necessary (more heat more air-cond, more air-cond even more heat). Better still, unplug the power when not using. This will reduce the comsumtion of coal, and reduce the amount of CO2  (which causes the global warming).
  • Save water. Frankly speaking, we are lack of clean water. Everyone saving a little bit on everyday will make big difference!
  • Throw to the right place. There are things that we can’t recycle, and can bring great damage to Earth, for example batteries, electronic appliances. Try to send them to dedicated collection centers(too bad in Malaysia we are lack of these). And don’t throw your rubbish into river, only uncivilized people do that.
  • Reduce the usage of transportation. Walking and bicycling are the best ways, or taking public transportation like buses and trains. However, the weather is too hot in Malaysia to walk, and public transportation (or the road systems… Samy Vellu…) sucks, I understand, but just try your best, at least don’t drive to next street in beautiful weather. If can’t live without car, try to get a fuel efficient car and drive green.
  • Eat less meat. Rearing live stocks produces a lot of greenhouse gas. In many places, forest cut down to open farms to rear live stocks. Try to be vegetarian, hahaha…
  • Buy locally made products that require lesser transportation energy (aka Petrol or Diesel).
  • Don’t buy a thing that you not really need (people buy things they not really need, weird, but happen everyday).
  • Education. Bring up the awareness of global warming to your friends and family, or ask them to visit my blog, hahahaha~!

I’ve metioned few steps above to help reduce the global warming. I admit that I not yet adapt with all stated actions above but I am trying to. And if you noticed, most of the steps have direct connection to “saving money”, so, saving the Earth, will save your money too :D

Try to do something before too late, even a little bit would help.

I’ve exercised my right

I’ve exercised my right as a Malaysian this morning :D

Early in the morning, aroun 7am, I woke up and took LRT to Kelana Jaya picked up my mum, using my aunt’s car. Then drove to Seri Petaling, to cast our votes. Mum had her leg operation last year so her leg is weak, need to sit on the wheel chair. So I pushed her into polling station, which is SK Seri Petaling.

However, our polling rooms were located at second floor, how could she climb up to second floor while she is having problem of walking? Luckly there were 2 SPR staffs helped me to carry my mum up to the second floor to cast her vote, then carried my mum down to ground floor again. SPR should consider about handicap people and open up a special polling streams for those handicap peoples in next General Elections.

After I cast my vote, I sent my mum home and then take LRT back home. So let’s see how’s things turn out tonight. :)

This is the time…

Waited for few years, now this is the time to change! Mar 8 2008, the 12th Malaysian General Election!

vote-dap.jpg

Change, doesn’t mean make Barisan Rakyat as government, because there are still a lot of votes will go to Barisan Nasional (you know where are the votes from), new government will be led by Barisan Nasional as usual. But, I believe that the seats will not as many as 2004 General Election. This is a long revolution to build a real democratic country, and 2008 General Election is the starting point of this revolution. In a real democratic country, strong opposition parties can monitor the ruling parties effectively to ensure benefits of the people, or even take over the government if the rulling parties are not good enough, just like US, UK and Australia.

My district is Seputeh parliamentary seat (no state assemblies), so DAP is my only choice. You have my vote, Teresa :)

Liars

*Update Mar 4 2008*
See what Abdullah Badawi talked about his 2004 promises at The Star.

Every General Election, every party spends a lot of money on advertisements, posters, billboards… especially Barisan Nasional, with their sweet propagation and promises.

Now, before 12th Malaysian General Election, I would like to highlight the propagation and promises advertised at newspaper at 2004 General Election. In 2004, Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi was a new Prime Minister, his appearance has given new hopes to Malaysians, with his promises like fighting corruptions, reform the government to be more efficient and more transparent, reduce criminal cases, decrease the racial gap and live up harmony society, “I want to listen to truth”, “Not work for me, but work with me”, so on and so forth. MCA even described Abdullah Badawi as Bao Gong, a Chinese judge in Dynasty Song that famous with his high integrity and fairness.

Let’s have a look back these advertisements and his promises (in Chinese):
Bao Gong…?

Promises

4 years passed, how many promises that he had achieved?

  • Zakaria Mat Deros… He able to build a house that can be called palace, no one is checking him.
  • Someone who taking bribe still a minister but someone who reporting a bribe is being accused.
  • Khairy, his son-in-law, from time to time flaming up the issues between races, then he could have demonstration against Condoleezza Rice, and police automatically issue the gathering permit to him, but all demonstrations called up by non-government bodies were either banned, brutally dismissed or blamed with untrue facts, even at International Human Rights Day, demonstrators were charged in court because of organizing peaceful gathering, which is granted legally under constitution.
  • Hishammuddin, giving speech with his unfriendly gestures to non-Bumi races, but didn’t get any ISA actions, while people fight for their rights were detained under ISA.
  • MCA and MIC, can’t fight for the rights for their own people, while acting as slaves of UMNO, not dare to voice up any unjustified decisions and unproper statements made by UMNO.
  • I laughed out loud when the Zainuddin being interviewed by Al-Jazeera, his English make Malaysian ashame. I also very frustrated with his Information Ministry where controls the media and threaten them to cover Barisan Nasional’s bad stories with their annually renewed media permits.
  • More and more toll gates were built, why we still need to pay road tax?
  • The astronaut project, spent billions of ringgit that paid by us, what do we benefit from it?
  • Could you walk in midnight alone without fear of getting robbed or raped?
  • Could you leave your mobile phone or laptop in the car and go shopping without worry?
  • If you are from sin city Johor Baru, did you get snatched or robbed before?
  • During 2006 Johor flood, Abdullah Badawi didn’t stay in Malaysia stand by for the Rakyat, but went to Australia to launch a Nasi Kandar restaurant for his relatives.
  • And now they are spending our hard earn money to advertise them again, with senseless advertisements.

The Malaysian constitutions are getting challenged even worse after Abdullah Badawi took over, Lingam case, alteration of the constitution just to allow Abdul Rashid retire 1 year later. Abdul Rashid promised his SPR will run a fair and clean Election, but more and more phantom voters are discovered in passed few weeks, but no action was taken, another big liar.

This boy from Penang was passed away last year August. His family checked their own election detail, and they checked together for this boy:

with shocked, his family discovered that his IC has been assigned to a girl, from Puchong, named V.Nalynna Anak Perempuan Visvanathan. News from Nanyang.com
Phantom voter

Those are just a little portion of problems that appear under the administration of current government, google yourself for more, or visit here.

Barisan Nasional, is a government full with liars, corrupters, racists, chauvinist pigs, cowards, idiots… Do you still want them to be your government? It’s time to change.
